How big is he? I know one of my GSPs is not so bright and likes to chew at the glass one but did'nt think they would break it! I geuss that has to go

Puffers don't have gizzards like birds, and ground glass would do in a bird.

I'm sure that those are what Nick was referencing when he said "heaters". We all fail to mesh gears at times. But his comments were totally applicable to those thermometers - they are reasonably precise but inaccurate. I use a grease pencil to note the correction needed (as: T-2F @80F). Even after it fades or gets wiped off, you can see the "ghost" of it. Sharpie ghosts last longer, but stain your tank towels.

My vote is to get a stick on thermometer, and then if you are paranoid about tank temperatures (if you use a quality heater like eheim ebo jager, penn plax, or visitherm (now marineland) stealth you don't have to worry about it) you can always get a portable digital thermometer.

Or, you can just remove the glass thermometer when you aren't using it and submerge it and just keep an eye on the puffer when you want a reading (should take up to about 30 seconds for a typical glass thermometer to get an accurate reading).

Or you can just get the coralife digital thermometer. They are very accurate but the batteries need to be replaced every so often because it start's giving incorrect readings (that the water is cooler than it really is)
