Well I'm not rushing out today or even this week. I'm still looking around.

I got to this thread a little late, and I've just read all of it --- I'm very sorry for your loss!
I think the tattoo is a cool idea. I have 3, in very discreet places, and the idea of getting a puffer tattoo is really cool. In fact, I may decide to do something like that myself, if I can stand the pain again. Ouch!

Well tell me about the pain. I'm pretty good about pain- had my last kid pain-meds-free, had terrible stomachaches and gone thorugh w/o pain meds at times (that they later give me morphine for!), migraines, have four cartilage piercings.... Does it compare to any of those?

I've never thought of it as pain, more of a discomfort. It does depend on the placement of the tattoo as well as your own tolerance level. The first one I got was on top of my foot and it reminded me of a continuous bee sting. The second was on my hip and the discomfort was minimal. Of course neither are very big, so that could be why the pain was minimal. I plan on getting a puffer tattoo as soon as I have some disposable income, most likely with my tax refund next year!
And I'm sorry about 8ball, he was a cutie! It worries me because one of mine is a little blimp. Let me know if you ever find out the exact cause of his passing.

Sorry for your loss, I kind of know that felling when I lost my first puff

Strangely, he isn't my first puff, nor first puff loss.

I would guess its not your first, but what i mean is that I felt just like that when I lost my first puff.

Seeing as you've had cartilage piercings, I think you will be just fine with a tattoo! Perhaps I'm just a wimp. The first two I got were on each of my upper arms, close to the shoulder, and they didn't really hurt, but my 3rd and last one, I got just up from my buttock and that hurt ALOT! I would say getting one where there's a muscle is a better idea than getting one somewhere that doesn't have much muscle or fat underneath it. But I do like the idea of a puffer tattoo, so maybe I can get my husband to get me one for Christmas!

I called a place and talked to a guy. Then I went in today with some photos and talked with him tonight. He's going to do some sketches. He asked me to write down what kind of puffer it is so he can look up others for the general shape. I told him they all are very personable. I'm excited! I'm going back a week from tomorrow. I'm getting it on my foot.

Don't forget to ask for his portfolio and get customer reviews!

Ah... I was thinking that whatever he draws for me will be what I'll get so if I don't like it we can renegotiate. I got a good feeling about it. He didn't just say "okay" and take me to the back and start off. He's going to do some research and some drawings. Talked about how he'd make a nice little water background so it didn't look like the fish was just stuck to my foot- have him facing my toes so he's always going the direction I am.

A drawing on paper with a pencil and a drawing on your body with a needle can look very different, so I'd still ask to see some photos. I've seen friends come back with not-so-stunning results...

From what I've seen, they trace a stencil of sorts on you before doing the permanant ink. However, I do have a week so I can go back in and ask to look at his portfolio.

When I got my tattoo in Scotland, the guy did the drawing himself, and then traced it off onto my skin, and it turned out really well. As long as the needles he's using are new, or you can see that they are put into one of those machines (can't think of the name right now -- vulcan-something) then you are okay!
