Pufferpunk... a dog and a fish are very different issues. A fish is not even as close in complexity as a a dog's brain activity and overall anatomy.
If a fish isn't breathing normally, there's only a few potential issues (which you have yet to list). It doesn't take a lot of knowledge to know that difference. What's amazing is I gave detail
after detail, always starting my off my posts by answering the top "Read this before posting". All the other fish are great and happy and have NO problems. Just the puffer.

It's a good thing you are a vet nurse, because you don't have the capacity to be the decision maker. You shouldn't take that as a personal shot,
but unless you are well versed in what you do then you shouldn't be allowed to troubleshoot the matter.

I suggest you give the reign to someone else for this forum that is worthy. You can take that personally, Pufferpunk.
Think you have got a little confused gi1911. Pufferpunk is not a vet nurse (as far as I am aware) I am. Clearly you haven't read the posts properly, or taken any notice of what people have been saying. If you can only answer with insults then I suggest you are feeling some responsibility for the loss (which I am sorry about). I feel sad that you now feel the need to insult the veterinary nursing profession (of which I have been in for 15 years - the last 8 as head nurse - I have no wish to be a vet, if that is what you think all VNs aspire to be!). I never offered you any advice on what the problem could be (as I had no idea & it would have been wrong for me to guess) but those that tried to help, have been involved in this industry for 30+years. Read the posts over again, but I won't hold my breath for an apology. Good luck with any future Puffs you decide to have & more importantly, very good luck to them!

I am sorry to hear that your MBU died, that is what everyone on here wanted to avoid.

You did not answer all of the questions.

"A dog and a fish are very different issues. A fish is not even as close in complexity as a a dog's brain activity and overall anatomy.

It actually takes a lot of knowledge (more than you seem to have) to understand that fish are very, very complex creatures, just as complex as a dog. There are many potential issues that can cause a fish to breathe rapidly, and that is why we were asking questions. You did not want to answer them, and you became upset when we did.

"I suggest you give the reign to someone else for this forum that is worthy. You can take that personally, Pufferpunk."

Seriously?

Sometimes people ask for advice but are not prepared or willing to take it. Maybe it's because they do not agree in principle, maybe it's because of not wanting to spend the time, energy or money. Either way you will often find people who think that, even though they have asked advice, find fault with those giving the advice to justify their not taking it. The trick is not to let it get to you and to focus instead on those who have accepted the advice and used it to better themselves and/or those (human or not) that they share their lives with.

LOL, I take nothing personally on the net. I own this forum & that will never change. I asked you a few simple Qs you never answered. Sorry for your loss but you didn't deserve such a magnificent fish. I hope you will leave them in the rivers, where they belong.

I think that this thread is pretty sad.

To gil911: I am sorry that your Mbu passed away. Honestly, a Mbu puffer is a fish that should be reserved for more advanced hobbyists with a significantly larger aquarium, not someone who won't even do their own water changes. To be blunt, it was an irresponsible decision to buy gil.

To LilGreenPuffer: Try and focus on the situation at hand next time. They asked how to help their puffer get well, not what the minimum tank size was. Yes, he/she should have had a bigger tank for gil, but that is not something that can be changed immediately. Also, calling people nincompoops? Not a mature way to respond. Have you owned a Mbu before?

To Walrus Head: Try and be more responsible with your fish, please... An 8 inch fahaka in a 20 gallon tank is just a sick thought. But that's just my opinion.

Again, sorry for your loss.

Way too often newcomers come to this forum with a sick mbu/fahaka that actually is housed ok for the size the fish is at the moment & before we ever give any advise on how to help their fish, they are attacked about not having a 1000g tank or not even being aware they might need a tank that size. Unfortunately, these fish are already in their posession & there is no way most folks will ever be able to afford or have the room or structural support for a tank that size.

Of course 1000g is ideal but please don't chase folks away from here flaming them for not planning for this & not helping with the immediate problem. Yes, inproper housing may be the root cause of most monster fish being sick but rarely is it a 3' fish they are writing about here. I have seen way too many folks leave TPF because of these kind of attacks before they really get to know how helpful we can be. I do agree that in this case, the OP never was willing to give the proper info so we could help but at the moment the fish was in a tank large enough for it's present size.

I was just trying to use a little humor; thus the wink. Didn't work. Noted.

Wow, this is a very sad post.

Its obvious that you came here to get an answer for your puffer. You managed to answer some of the standard questions, but when we asked you to answer the rest, instead you decided to insult us. Yes, it is very sad that your puffer died, but it may have been for the better. If/ once it got too big and you couldn't afford a home for him you would of had to give him away, where he may have been in even worse conditions.

And insulting the board administrator who can put you on probation is never a good idea.

Heh, it's pretty difficult to insult me & it takes a lot to get on probation around here.

Yeah, people get banned a lot more on other forums. I guess trolls just aren't into puffers :D
