My Hall of Shame confession: I'm horrible about water tests! I only have one tube left (the others broke), so tests take forever, running up and down the hall to rinse the tube out in between, and I always forget how many drops I've added already, and I honestly hate doing them. I'm investing in some dip strips as soon as I get me paycheck, and then I'll do them at least 3x/week again. But my water changes are always about 80%, so that's my penance.

Thanks PP. LilGreen, I've never owned a kit/strip. Never done a test! I'm only 11 with a $5 a week allowance.

At 80% WC, you really shouldn't need to be testing. The only tank I test is my reef tank & that's about 1x/month. I can't remember the last time I tested any of my FW tanks. They've been set up forever though.

Good. Because those good testing test are EXPENSIVE.

Still ALWAYS need them on hand for cycling new tanks & testing for the 1st year & any time something look off. No way you're getting out of those, Lil S!

Ahh. Ha ha PP! I'll save up for one, but I also need to save up for the fish and for TetraSafeStart. I've got $45 already.

So where's that syphon? I'd get those teat kits ASAP.

I hate to post twice on my own thread, but....

I was gone for the weekend. Not too far away, but still... I fed my F8's a decent meal on Friday evening. Saturday morning, I gave them a few blood worms. I also moved my fiddler crab to their tank because they nevere bothered it before. He was too fast and they were too scared of him. So I get home tonight- after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday- and find shell at the bottom of the F8's tank. It took me a second and then I realized who's shell that was. Well, at least my F8's fed themselves today and I know they like crab. My son will be disappointed, though. Don't put anything alive in the tank you don't want your F8's to eventually eat!

Pretty sure. I saw one suck down a leg and the top shell that I pulled out was pretty hard, not soft and white like the molt he left a few weeks ago.

Not just my thread. Post away. What won't your parents let you get- a test kit or a syphon? if its a syphon, just do it the old-fashioned way. stir up the rocks with your hand and dump out the water with a big cup into a bucket. Gotta do what ya gotta do. I thought about getting a syphon for my 30 gallon today but its not a necessity for the tank. Faster, yes. Your DP's just need to take one killer bite and YUM! Puffer's eyes are bigger than their stomachs.
