because it seems kinda pointless to debate whether a puffer in a random picture is one species or another even though they are pretty much the same...
If it's that pointless why did anyone bother to reply

I really don't get you...Do you not find it intresting when someone find's what maybe something a little different in the puffer world. Plus there's the fact that there's some evidence that there maybe a varient to the Dwarf Puffer

I saw this pic and thought it was unusal and thought I'd show it to fellow puffer lovers and get their opinion on it...is that not the point of ThePufferForum

You stated in the PufferPoll thread that you like to read threads where you can learn and discuse Puffers...why don't you try creating an intresting puffer thread yourself once in a while!

What is the difference between them other than slightly different markings?
it is a dwarf puffer, imitator or not. They're not even proven to be separate species are they?

I do make interesting threads from time to time, same as you. difference is, I don't load the boards with useless ones in between.
Not trying to be terribly rude, but it does annoy me...

You two cut it out, okay?

The summary of this thread, is that the "regular" dwarf puffer and the "Imitator" species are pretty much the same fish with the same care, same behavior, same growth size, etc.. and most people don't even consider them separate species, just different color patterns.

99 times out of 100, the fish you see in the store will be your standard dwarf puffer, and even if it IS the imitator, its not going to change how you'd care for it or how big it will get.

And yes, I've always been told the imitators had more of the blue coloring in their spots and markings than the standard, for what its worth.
