I now have a new puffer!

Not only did I start from scratch with the tank set-up- new rock, new plant, new gravel-, but I treated the water yesterday. Then today, I drove 45 mins each way to get Tetra SafeStart. (I called several places near here and they all had no idea what it is, and ONE said "Its Tetra Aquasafe". I said "No, its not. They are two different products. Guess you don't have it." I then had my water tested which checked out 0 across the board. I picked out a dwarf puffer and got some live blood worms, too. Currently, he's in the tank in the bag acclaimating.

I took pix. I'll upload some soon.

No name yet.. Current bids (from the kids) are: Squirt, Mort, Swimmy, Albert, Locker, Brock....

Oh and the woman at the store was there who said I should get 3 or 4.... she said the same today, adding that they like groups. I said, "but when they're bigger there won't be enough room in my 5 gallon and they won't be so friendly." Odd since she said that he would eat an oto. (Had to ask!)

They also apparently stock box fish- but they were out. I saw one online. They look really cool.

Oh- and the Safestart - you could SEE the clumps of bacteria- I'm guessing. The Cycle stuff was just clear.

I think someone has been bitten by the puffer bug. I've never seen it......but it does seem to sneak up on you.........then "BAM" you get bitten. :D
After that the side effects start......MTS (multiple tank syndrome)............After MTS set's in, you can forget it! It's hopeless! You will have this disease for life.

You'll see him! He'll pop out to beg for food every time you walk into the room! Don't give in to those pleading eyes...

Is it possible to tell if its male or female yet? Its not very big, so still young.

I'm babysitting for my sister right now, but when I get home I'm going to feed him for the first time. One or two bloodworms be okay?

Start looking for a line right down the middle of the tummy and yellow circles around the eyes. If you see this you have a male. If you don't you have a female. If it's still young these things may not show up yet. And yes it's ok to feed him/her a few bloodworms. :D

I think Myaj posted a picture showing the difference. I'll try to find it.
