If you really don't think you can afford a proper tank for him (this includes stand, top, lights, gravel, filtration, etc, this fish will need soon) then you should post him up in our Classefieds.

This fish does not tolerate tank mates...at all, he will eat anything in the tank once he's healthy.

I was wondering if there is away to tell if he is blind, he has white spots in his eyes, does ick do that or could he blind?

from my experience ick can cause cloudy eyes if it attacks the eyes...

does he have white spot... ? Can you see spots on his fins/body?

What are you trying to feed him? What has he been eating so far?

I'm amazed he's survived this long, shows how much of a fighter he is, don't give up on him. :-)

When I first got him he liked ghost shrimp. I have tried mysis shrimp, daphnia, and frozen krill. I just put some ghost shrimp in the tank today. He just acts real tired, and seems like he can't see. His coloring changes from a gray color to a gray and black, and his belly is a yellow, I think from stress, as for white spots I see none, but his eyes have a shine of a blue with a white spot in the middle. I just changed half the water, should I try and treat the tank for ick? I just treated for eye cloud.

he's been through so much i would just keep up with the water changes, keep his water in pristine condition nd let him relax for a bit...

try feeding a variety of foods, but alway take out what he doesn't eat after a few minutes, unless it's live...

don't chuck in loads of meds, puffers are sensitive to them and i doubt it will help right now.

Keep us informed on how he's getting on. :-)

I definately agree with t1gerbee, a lot of medications can just make puffers sicker than they already are.

Clean water is the best possible thing for him at the moment.. Do daily water changes if you can.

And yes, you need to either get rid of it or get it a larger tank, when kept in tanks too small it does permanent damage to their bodies.. leading to early death and many health problems. This is true for all fish, but especially true for puffers, they are very sensitive, delicate fish.

Update, he is still alive, but one of his eyes have blood in it or behind it, any ideas on how to treat this, it looks like pop eye, but I have never seen it.

Are you still doing lots of water changes? Add Melafix & 1 tbsp salt/10g.

Update, I lost him today. He was a great fish, I thank all you for the help, and I learned not to listen to any lfs. I seen a healthy 12" Fahaka for the first time today, beautiful fish, I hope to have one soon. Fantastic Fins in Mich, great pet store, Something Fishy sucks bad.

I am really sorry for you loss. It sucks that it had to happen this way. Now you can spend some time looking for a larger tank and the set-up for one if you decide to get one again. :)

Huh... Seems like lfs are the root of alot ALOT of problems ... I was told to keep my Fahaka in brackish (1.010) as well. Mine just got that whitish on his eye and its clouding up. Doesn't seem to be completely blind but he's very spacey. :(
