Well after a very long battle, Gunther finally passed away tonight. We'd been forcefeeding him for the last week and a bit and he had regained a bit of strength, but was still unable to eat on his own. Tonight he finally succumbed to his illness.

I'm very saddened but I think it was his time. We are leaving the country for two weeks and, in a way, I'd rather he passed on while we were here than while we were away. We said our good-byes and are going to keep him frozen until we can give a proper burial.

RIP Gunther!

No....so sorry to hear that. It really seemed he was rallying. I guess sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I just lost my puff a couple of days ago too whilst I was out of town. You did a great job though, as his owner. And one thing I realise about them puffers is that they really have a high will-power to live! But honestly, sometimes I rather they pass on peacefully than suffer... RIP gunther

Thanks all. I miss the little guy... He was my buddy!
I think I'll end up stocking his tank with neon tetras or some other fish equally impossible to grow fond of. ;0
