Most important point of the thread:
Corvus wrote: It is well possible this specimen is a "cross river puffer", but it still is unclear if the Cross river puffers is a seperate species or "just" a regional color variant of T. lineatus.
Even if it is taxonomically considered a different species, it appears so closely related to a Fahaka that it's splitting hairs IMO, considering we're not breeding them.
So basically, IMO, you have to decide whether or not a Fahaka with a color variation is worth $500 to you.

If you ask me, 500 bucks for ANY fish is over the top. But that's just IMHO.

I think Corey has made a very valuable point there, I thought Fahaka straight away. I'm still not convinced that they are in fact a different species, so the question is regardless of what species it is would you want to pay 500 for it? I probably wouldn't but I am skint :P

A genetic variation that causes slightly different coloration and reduced lines ("spots") is not much of a stretch...

I mean, no matter how you look at it, whether they're a different species or not, they are rare (for now) so if that's your thing go for it.
