I wish I had duck weed I think it's a cool little plant...

Hah! I said the same thing, Jase, when I went and got some Duckweed... That was a short-lived dream, though. The duckweed makes it a PITA when you're trying to feed the fish, and if you do tank maintenance, then you get it ALL over your arms and the decor that you're moving around. I agree it's a neat plant, but it's far too inconvenient to keep in my tank. If you made a little barrier at the top of the tank to keep it in it's own territory, it would probably be neat, but having it free-float all over the top tends to get annoying, from my experience.

And it plugs up the filters all the time too. It really pulls nutrients out of the water, but man its a mess. And once you have it, its incredibly hard to get rid of it.

I couldn't agree more. You should see my arms when I've tried to pick something from the bottom of my 325 liter tank (have to put all of my arm into the water). Green all over! And if you share equipment from tank to tank, you get it in all of them. I didn't even get the duckweed in purpose, but by accident (coming with a new fish). And it grows all over the surface pretty quickly, and shuts the light out. In some tanks it even gets into the internal filter, and makes problems there too.

but I'd put a sponge on my filter to keep it out...

duck weed and water skippers! then it'd really look like a natural tank

I was thinking more of something like floating riccia, I hate that duckweed stuff!!!!

I have a bunch of Elodea, and Hornwart in my 55gal.

Riccia fluitans is famously used in amano style tanks to create some amazing results as it can also be grown submered by attaching it to decor with hair nets and plenty of thread. Its a great plant floating as it soaks up nitrates and provides places for fry to hide. Its only downfall is that it doesn't like too much water movement so tanks with hi turnover may not let it get to its best. I have some ATM but its not too good as my lighting is on the blink

I've really wanted some to setup a planted tank, but had no idea what it is!
