Hey SYN, did you mean "hermit" crab?? I can't find anything on the internet on what an "installs" crab looks like, so I was just curious. =)

Yoshi should be here and ready to come home by the beginning of next week!!! That's just in time for 4 weeks of cycling time (OMG it goes by so fast!!!!). Got two turbos and 4 nerites today, to take care of this algae problem. My mag float decided that it was going to grow legs and run and hide. I can't find the gosh darn thing anywhere. Also put two more shells in the tank in hoping that my poor little Pig finds a bigger, better home that he's happy with lol. Still have to take his moltings out of the tank....

With my luck, I am going to get a little s**t head of a GSP. And if he is, he's going to have smorgasbord of food waiting for him. >< I am hoping that he's like Balki and goes by the rule "if it has eyes, it's not edible." Hope with me guys, haha.

So I am thinking of naming the smaller turbo "Bull" and the larger one "Dozer".....they are really eating to their little hearts content right now. I will have to take some pics and post them up. =)

Sorry to keep posting, I just keep thinking of things and since going to the LFS always has some interesting stories coming back, I like to share them with you all....

So as you all know, I went to the LFS 2 weeks ago and bought my hermits and emeralds. I call them hermits and crabs, even though I know they both have "crab" in their names. Anywhoo.

I couldn't for the life of me remember what my hermits were called. It bugged me, because I wanted to read up on them and learn about them a little bit more. I went in today, with Denzil, and I asked this one guy (the same guy that fed me BS about needing a sump and refugium couple weeks back, yes, I should have known better), about the algae in my tank and how to get rid of it. I was told that it was probably hair algae, but if it was stuck to my rocks (which it is) that it was "impossible to get rid of and I should just take those rocks out and toss them." He also said that turbos and snails wouldn't work, and that it sounded like I didn't use RO water......

So, after talking to him, the guy that orders the fish came up and I talked to him about ordering Yoshi, and then looked around. Based off of what SYN said, I knew that I wanted snails, but I didn't check what she said before I left. So I grabbed my phone, looked at her post, and I was like "ah-ha!" nerites and turbos. So I wanted to find someone to help me, and this guy that helped me the last time was there. This guy knows a lot for working at a LFS. I feel comfortable talking to him because he had a reef tank with tons of corals and he fragged his and sold them to the store when his was set up (he moved into a teeny tiny apartment, so he had to break it down and sell it). And he's on another forum, so he understands where I am coming from lol. In a nutshell, he's not overbearing, is open to new ideas, and nothing is ever set in stone. So I was talking to him about grabbing a few snails, and told him what was going on and he was like "Oh yeah, they will definitely help!" where the other guy wanted me to throw out my LR....Then I asked him about my hermits, and he told me that the tank (he really didn't know, he's never seen my hermits before or since I bought mine) said that they were "crown" hermits for $4.99. Ok, so I remembered, and checked when I got home and it brought up nothing. Weird. Called them and talked to him again, yeah, it was crowns, he said, but the new ones look different LoL. After doing a few hours of research, I finally found them....I have a Calcinus laevimanus, a Left Handed Hermit Crab. And it turns out that they are reef safe! I don't blame the helpful guy, but it just goes to show that most LFS's are either misinformed, or poorly informed to begin with.

Haha ok, I thought so, but I wasn't sure....there is still tons that I don't know, and here I thought you had this awesome looking crab LoL!

Thought to update with some pictures since it's been a while, and because I just found some kind of starfish on my glass, and it's smaller than a dime ^.^ Not sure what kind it is, and you know, I swear I look at this tank hundreds of times a day. And he's in a pretty obvious spot up front, and I swear, I haven't seen it until now. Let me know what you all think =)

Thanks J-P, after I was done uploading the camera I realized that I was shooting in macro the whole entire time. Got some nice shots, haha but still kind of fuzzy. I have been playing around with the manual focus so I was able to get shots like the star and the algae back a few posts ago. What do you think about the star? Friend or pest? LoL I want to get him while I can see him if he's a pest. Also, snails are doing their job on my rocks, all that algae almost gone now. Just need to break down and getting another mag float since mine ran away....

Soooo...I named Pig because he bullied the smaller hermit...however, said smaller hermit is now called Snaps, because he wanted Pig's shell, and snapped off Pig's little claw to get it. Do these grow back? Is there anything that I need to do?

Yoshi will be here tomorrow =D going to go get her in the afternoon!! Yay! I hope she likes the new tank. Now all I need is a protein skimmer, and I will be set =D I will post up pics tomorrow =D

Yoshi's been pretty good. She has been leaving everyone alone, but we will see.

On a side note, I got an awesome deal on shells at Petsmart-- someone but a bag of them in the wrong home so instead of $7.99 I got them for $2.99. Snaps already has the bright green one on LoL. I still miss Pig though = /
