Ok... this is a difficult one for me (there are 2 points of discussion):

I need a little more advice concerning my GF (Gold Fish).

I have uploaded a video and you can see this 1 of 2 ways: A) since gold fish are smart, it is comical, or B) since gold fish are not so smart it is torture.

At first I thought it was funny, thus I took the video. I thought they were “playing” in the current. As you can see, they were moving in and out of their own free will. It was a daily exercise for them.
Then, it occurred to me, that they were after the air bubbles and getting caught in the current. After closer observation I believed this to be true.

I then transplanted them to a larger section 76 Gals, and watched them in that tank. The nutters are in the current again! Although, not nearly as much. I wonder if they were just exploring and getting caught in it.

Which, brings me to a 2nd and 3rd question: I mentioned earlier that the tank temp in the final tank is lower than the first one. This is true by about 2 degrees (at the level of the substrate). The actual surface temp is even across all tanks (holding at 75F).
I don’t have tape on thermometers for every tank. SO.... How accurate are they and should I place one on each tank?

very possible... my cat, when she gets bored of playing with something, she lays on top of it.... so this one time, i went to hold her, and i couldnt figure out what this crusty thing was on the underside of her belly.... to my surprise, i found my 4 year old betta "sushi" entangled in her fur GGGRRRR... kitties love fishies... now my cat gives my red devil the eye like shes trying to figure out how to get the fishy out of the tank so she can play with it or eat it

I don't have a lot of confidence in the tape strip external thermometers. I use lots of Coralife electronics. I compare them at the LFS, rejecting any not in agreement with majority. They are quite lasting and seem the more accurate of the methods currently available. The probe (with suction cup) is handy when you have or think that you have temperature variation in a tank - not as rare as some think,BTW. They are quite inexpensive.

I have a digital meat thermometer Reads from like -10F to 450F. Cost about $10 and so far seems quite reliable. Gives accurate and consistent readings.

Flutter I am using one of those also, but I can feel with my hand that the temp 3' below the water line is colder than the top. My thermomiter isn't water proof

Not glass - the Coralife are electronic. The probe has (clear) suction cup. Clear is likely better, but you can still see it plainly. The read-out is external and digital.

I do not trust thin glass tubes in tanks anymore - I've had too many broken by fish. Nearly tank break-down to clean it up. Thy have become NIMFT.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

After arriving from work today I went to feed the fish .. I was shocked!
The loach was gone and 1 Goldie was caught in a hair net near death... The first thing I asked my wife was "did you feed or check the fish?" she replied "no.."
I feeded the gold fish from the net and discareded the death trap. Next I went searching for the loach ... stirred the sand .. checked the caves ... finally found it in the pre filter! He scooted down stream 2 tanks and went to the filter for some reason Thank God he was still alive. I put him back into his origional tank to recover.

The Goldie has some fin tear but seems active. The loach seems ok so far and is eating but far less active. I think the loach will pull through, he's been through worse

Now you may ask about the hair net.. I used a hair net to secure my mosses to various structures. For the most part it works well. Some how the GF went to a section of moss wheree the net wasn't ties as tightly as it should have neen and got under it then tangled.

Next question you may have .. why was the GF UNDER the net? That section of tank has loose Java moss and guess what I found after all the stress?

EGGS!!!! 100's of them all over the moss beds in the GF tank!

So ... if I can some how get these to hatch and get little baby goldies... anyone want to adopt? You'd have to be in Ontario

awe how sweet... hopefully they are fertelized! ive never seen goldfish fry. i bet they are way cute
