brent- you may want to check out flchams.com and see if they ship to canada. their prices are reasonable and they are very well known among chameleon keepers. heres their site. they have some adult females in and they also have some 4 week old babies, both male and females... check it out http://flchams.com/inventory_all.asp?id=1027&cham=

suzanne- i vote for naming the newbie "puppy" :D "kitty" and "burt" go together because of your parents... and "kitty" and "puppy" go together XD lol im half joking on this one... but i do think it would be cute. anyway, good luck with your new little girl... all this pygmy talk is making me want a few lol, NO karen!! bad! must resist.... picasso is giving me a run for my money (literally) and he is as much as i can handle right now but their little faces and cute little chameleon fingers are just so sweet its hard to resist <3

I was looking at flchams earlier. I figured they wouldn't shop across a border, and even if they do there is the problem of customs.

I'll contact them all the same.

Thanks Kilo. (:

Darn. The only way to contact them is via phone (not going to happen) or Microsoft Office which I do not have.

It'll have to wait until I find the time to create an account with MO.

ahhh i didnt think about there being a border to cross hahaha stupid me, you never know though they might do it, ive heard nothing but good things from them and if someone recieves a sickie, i heard they do their best to make it right. good luck in finding some :D this is so exciting! i love getting new pets but i cant logically provide for any more at the moment (because of picassos vet bills, i have no more emergency vet fund, so no more pets until i build it back up), so i get to enjoy all of your guys' new ones  thanks guys! im getting my "new pet fix" without actually getting any new pets XD this is great

Brent this may sound silly, but did you do a basic search on Google for "pygmy chameleons for sale in Newfoundland, Canada"? That might help, you'd be surprised.

Nothing came up. Any chameleons for sale were either not pygmies or based in the US.

I'm going to contact some LFSs/Pet stores and see if they can order them.

Just one quick question: Mom thinks they're going to smell bad. I doubt it, but do they?

Whoot! Pets Unlimited can order them! I've got to call them back tomorrow for current availability, however it'll likely be next weeks shipment as the supplier needs time.

Mom is... agreeable... to this as well. Or rather, she is going to talk to me about it. She wants to know everything about their care. She doesn't mind the cricket part though, so that's good! (:

Good news that you can get them and even better news that your Mom seems okay with it all. Mine don't smell bad at all, and I don't see any reason why they would. Today is exactly one month since I first got my original pair of pygmies, so my terrarium has been set up for that long, and there's no smell, at least nothing bad. The only smell that comes from it is a bit "woodsy", you know - how it might smell in the woods after a good rain. At least that's the best way I can describe it, but definitely not offensive in any way. :D

Definitely.

That's good to know. I love the smell of the woods- so does mother dearest. ;)
We're outdoorsy people.

Now it seems you've recruited another person to chams.

Shall we attempt to gain another? :P

The pygmy chameleons are really easy to clean up after and if you throw some live plants in there mom will likely be even more interested. I was never a plant keeper myself but I love the way they look in my terra. Very simple care, no odor to speak of and I love feeding Miss Piglet. Its so cool to watch her eat. I have her on a twelve hour light schedule, I feed every other day, I dust every few feedings (her crickets are always gut loaded anyway). I turn the light on and mist the terra real good after half an hour to an hour. A short time later she comes down out of her ficus tree and wanders all around for a few hours looking for food. Then its back up into the ficus where she lounges the rest of the day. I really hope to find another male and perhaps a second female at this next reptile show.
I love the big leaves on the pothos plants and so does she. Perfect for hiding under.

I added a small piece of mopani wood on top of the subtrate heater side so she could bask on toasty warm wood if she pleases.

In her favorite ficus. :D

Sorry, these are a bit blurry. I didnt get out the tripod for these few pics. Just giving Brent some inspiration.

Your pics are always appreciated Jose. :D

Yeah I am tempted to get another female, even though there's a reptile show on the 20th, just not sure I can wait that long.

Definitely like the look of your terra.
-inspired-

The pothos does seem like a good idea- I may have to steal that one. I'll see what else I can find too.

I think it'd be appreciated by your current pygmies to have more friends. From what I've heard they're really social!
Odd how very different their personalities are from the big chams though, isn't it?

Wow. Just downloaded the pygmy caresheet from flchams and it's 9 229 words. Lot's of reading for me! =}

Menage a trois! Yesyesyes. =D

:happydance:

I don't know how I'm going to mist every morning. I've got school and mom works. Any suggestions as to making a mister less pressurized? Misting is the only problem I've got.

Ack.

I go away every few weekends too. I can't ask someone to mist twice / day for me.

You're going to need to make sure they stay cool and moist, otherwise they could die. So you need to think about that part. :?
