I am doing my best. If you all can't help me then I will just continue with what I have been doing. My fish are happy just like they are. Am I trying to upgrade everything like you have told me to do? YES! But I can't magically make it happen over night.

So much for the kinder friendlier forum ;)

Anyway, I know you are doing double water changes... have you given any thought to adding that second filter on there and the media sock I mentioned before?
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...

My post was not intended to be unkind. It's just that you keep asking the same questions as if you're expecting the answer to be different. I know you have some memory problems, I understand how difficult that can be, but the information is all here and it's not difficult to reread the thread.

You are working very hard, I have no doubt about that. I know you are trying very hard but there's more that should be done.

JP's suggestion about a second filter is a good idea. You could also try adding some biological media near the input or output of your current filter. Hopefully that would provide more surface area for beneficial bacteria.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

+1 for Flutter... yes, you can always go back and re-read the notes (posts) :)

As mentioned before (on MFK) adding that second filter with bio media only will help. Adding that media sock (stuffed with bio media) will help also.

the analogy is: You can get so many clowns in a car... after that you can't fit any more. BUT you can add some clowns ON the car...

having a 2nd or even 3rd small HOB filter with bio media greatly increases the capacity for the short term. It doesn't alter the water change schedule, just get you more beneficial bacteria in a smaller place until you can upgrade.

I will be adding a second filter in about 30 days. I have to re-home all of my fish from the 5g tank first and I will do that when I leave for Christmas break. It will be a filter just like what I already have on the 10g tank. Other than that all I have is a small filter I used to use for some red eared sliders freshman year.

I don't know if covering the filters intake with an extra Aquaclear sponge has been mention yet to grow more BB.

Best picture I have at hand at the moment.

I don't think people are trying to be rude to you at all. They are just trying to explain to you what your fish are going through. The ammonia burns them and even the SLIGHTEST trace of it is too much. Like was previously said it's like having acid on your skin. I don't think they could be happy about that but I know you're trying.

Lost internet for a few days. Here are the latest parameters:

nitrate-08
nitrite-0
hardness-80
alkalinity-110
PH-7.2
Ammonia-.1

Any better yet? Almost all of the ammonia is gone. Yes I understand that it is still there but it is almost gone... that's good right?

Yes, that is definitely better than before!

Have you noticed any changes in the fish?

They are the same. Only mad when I have to skip feeding them on Thursdays. They swim through the tank and eat quickly.

I did find that they do not like the window cling I put on there tank for Christmas. I took it off when they started pacing up and down it and jumping out of the water. As soon as it was gone, they went back to normal.

The window cling? Yes they had red on them. They were penguins with red presents and red hats. Why do you ask?

A lot of puffers seem to be agitated by red.
