a 10 g is too small
ok.. options:
A) if you have prime or other product to take out the chlorine you can switch over the filters, sand / gravel every thing and put that in the 10 g tomorrow.
B) if you do not have something to take out the chlorine in the water, let it stand for 24 hours with the bubbler and switch everything over (same as A but a longer wait).
If you have a dechlor product (Prime or Safe Start) you can do this tomorrow.
How much does a 30 gallon tank cost in your area? Pet Depot etc...

30 g = almost 300 lbs
that is a sofa TV and 3 people in the same spot

If near a wall, it usually is not a problem. Usually the stand spreads that weight out.
But let us know how the change goes
Save that little 5 gallon tank. You will need it for snails later

A 3 gal will be fine for snail breeding.
just change everything over from the 5 to the 10 either tomorrow afternoon (if you have dechlor or the next morning if you don't).
Next project: Where can you put a 30 Gal tank??
You do not have to answer tonight.. it is something to think about. Wall side is best, and walk around the basement with your Dad.. see where the supports are
You will get there.. it is just a matter of time

still should be no problem
the inside section of an outside wall will be ok. The corners are best
Think about it. Others will reply also. I'll be on again tomorrow night. TTYL!!

well i did think about it and talked it over with dad he said it wouldnt work because of the how old the house is and (not very smartly built i may add my closetes rack is falling down it wasnt mounted on a stud) the floors bords are not very thick eather achualey there realy quit poor when it comes to wood choice but thas the bulders that built it im sure they where fine when the house was newer but years of were and tair just cought up with them

then the simple reply is:
If you want to keep this fish you have to find a way.. get 2x4 under the stand or something...
OR
Find a friend that will take him and you can visit.
Difficult choices.

I know you're trying hard but it really seems like you won't be able to keep this fish. Some people here have given you some excellent options to give this fish a chance at a decent life.
Please take them up on this.

How did you set up the new tank? I hope you moved everything over: gravel, decorations, filter.
