I've never heard of them excreting anything, except occasionally poop, upon death. And it wouldn't be an issue if you've done a huge water change, that should have removed most, if not all, of anything it may have excreted.

No puffers do not excrete toxins and it generally beleived that captive puffers are non toxic. They build up toxicity in the wild from eating food that contain bacteria that they can store in the liver and skin tissue. As captive puffers are fed "clean" food if you will, they are not poisnonus, definately not after 4 years.

Did the cloudiness come about after cleaning the filters, did you use tap water? Using tap water will kill the bacteria in the filter, its best to clean in a bucket of tank water.

It is most likely a bacterial bloom and it could take a number of days to clear, try adding some flake food to the tank to give the bacteria something to feed on

How much Epsom salt did you add to what size tank? I really wish you had answered ALLthe questions when I asked you to.

What size tank? What kind of knife fish--how large?

In all my years of adding Epsom salt--if used properly, it will not cause death, ot tank crash.

i did answer most ofthe questions? i was in a proper panic when on here whe it was all ging on!
3 level table spoons, 5ftf tank just under 400litres, knife ish was black with a white band round the end of tail,was about 6 inches long.
not saying that it was the salt that done it, he wasnt well anyway and hadent been for about 3 weeks,that waqs not by choice either i was away on holiday,had people feding them but they wouldnt of known how to treat for me while i was away.

You never really posted tank size or inhabitants. That was important. I understand you were in a panic but we ask all those Qs for a very specific reason & w/o all the answers, we really can't put all the puzzle pieces together.

Since your tank is around 100g & you only added 3 tbsp, when it would have been safe to ad as much as 20, I can assure you the Epsom salt wasn't the cause of those deaths. Something is very wrong with the tank. What test kits are you using?
