Good point, I'll check my lfs. Also, I just did another roughly 75% water change, but the strips still say its too high. I'm going to keep this up and pick up some Prime tomorrow. I just hope for the best.

I was making a joke about the consistent adding of an 'L" to the end of prime, they definately have it at petco and many LFS, so support your favorite local if possible

Nitrite of 1 is extremely toxic to your fish. I can't imagine what 10x that would be for your poor fish. I would continue to do WC (at least 80%), 2x/day until they are consistantly 0. Did you get it tested at a LFS yet?

PufferPunk, I have not taken the water to the lfs , but I plan on buying a liquid test master kit because it seems like it will help out a lot in the long run. Do you reccommend any brand or specific model? I also plan on investing in a refractometer for more specific readings so I can keep on top of things more easily. Oh, and I don't have time for 2 80% water changes a day, only one because of homework/school. BUT, I will be able to devote a lot more time to him over the summer break in about a week. Also, I need to get control of my tank fast before I go on vacation next week. Thanks for all of the advice people, I really appreciate it

I don't think you have much of a choice but to do these water changes. It would be like living in a room with toxic gasses building up & someone only turned an exhaust fan on 1x/day, to freshen the air.
Yes, that is the Prime you should be using. I recommend Aquarium Pharmacuticles Master Test kit.
