She got the kit so it has a backpack and a heater.. will that work? I told her not to use the carbon though, is that right?

Carbon will absorb meds, so no carbon.

She will need biological filtration (removes ammonia, nitrites) not just mechanical filtration (removes particles, waste, etc).

When dealing with bacterial infections - cooler temps are better than "normal" or elevated as bacteria do not grow as well in cooler temperatures.

Thanks all! He is all better now and he actually wound up coming home with me. My friend decided she'd like something easier.
