I have a 600 gallon acrylic tank with large puffers - over the years the scratches from their teeth have made viewing very limited - if you don't mind deep scratches then the custom acrylic would be good.

Now that is something I would not have considered, a good bit of advice there for sure

justin, the tank i have is 20" deep and 5 foot long.

Thats very similar to the one Im looking at. Its a bit shorter though and a foot longer.

I never thought of the scratches from the puffer! I am not sure if that will work well after all...

Couldn't you drain the tank temporarily and give it a slight sanding in the scraped areas, then a coat of expoxy resin to seal the scratches? You can get resins that will cure totally in 24 hours, so the fish and filters would only have to be set up elsewhere for a bit.

The problem is this would be an ongoing problem as the puffer will continue to scrape the tank with their teeth - it one is willing to do this on a regular basis, it would work.

Problem I see is continually moving the puffers to a holding tank to repair the acrylic scratches (stress not only on them but the owner).....not to mention having "containers" to store the drained water - as making a whole tank of new water on a regular basis will start to cost $$....especially when the tank is large.

I think I am going to stick with glass because my little guy is already "biting" the inside of the glass quite often! i can imagine how it will look after about a year!

Im just having a hard time deciding what will be the best dimensions for him...

I wasn't sure how bad or how often they scratched.... I figured it would be a once every year or two thing...
