Feeding one type of food is not good, the more variety you can get in their diet the better so they pick up different nutrients, protein etc... You will never be able to simulate what they eat in the wild accurately with what we have for sale to us, but the more variety you can get him to take the better.

Yes, that's called gutloading. Feeding the shrimp veggies will help get the veggies into the puffers.
