Okay what I meant was that it needs to be thicker than your average Plexiglas thickness from the store.

Im still not sure what Im going to do? Some good ideas though! I am very lucky that so far he never jumps but I know I cant count on that...

I like the "eggcrate" stuff since it is easy to cut into any shape and can fit snugly. Here's a picture of it on the back of a 29G with a stock hood, canister and skimmer:



I have also made a custom hood for my reef tank out of a very think piece of plexi. I don't have any good pictures of it, but if anyone wanted, I'm sure I could take a few.

I would love to see the pics of the plexi glass. Does it weaken the light in th etank at all? This so far looks like the way I may have to go. I would use egg crate but I dont want the shadows it will create in the tank. Although it would be very good for heat issues...I dont know what to do! Luckily he still never jumps as far as I can see. He rarely comes to the surface except to eat...

Here's mine- not the best quality picture, but you get the idea. I can't see any shadow effect from the light and I haven't seen any sagage either. That's with a twin 48" Oceanic light (120v/80w).

I investigated clear plexiglass and I would have required at least 1/2 in and that was WAY more expensive.

Speaking of spoiled fish- that's chompers in the lower left corner (3" Fugu), this is his 90 gallon tank- just him and the 3 shrimp that have managed to elude him- he doesn't like anything else living in his tank- he'll often kill it immediately and let it sit til he's hungry.

But the journey is half the fun- enjoy!
