I'd definately add Melafix, to prevent infection.

Weeman's bump has just about gone, hopefully it'll be the last I see of it!!

Bob's spot has also become smaller, It seems as if the pressure was finally relieved and the (infection?) was able to escape. I have been watching him like a hawk and he is the same as ever, and I have not seen any similar bumps on any of his tankmates, so I can only hope that it was only some sort of infection and it will heal itself (I hav been adding melafix as to prevent any further infection) and hopefully our experiences with this will give anyone else who has a similar problem a plan of attack for this particular situation: water changes, melafix, and patience. Maybe they won't cry when they see it like I did and realize it is a small problem, just like a "puffer zit" as Pandora said!

It has been about 6 months since I last clipped it. He is not showing any signs of distress, though, which is why I did not think anything of it. I will get a pic up asap!

Again... I don't know if I'm confused... but I've never heard of such a thing.... I had to clip my puffer's teeth... I've NO idea what the peak is...

Well, a puffers teeth are more like a beak (think of a parkeet beak) than actual "teeth" so they are commonly referred to as a beak. Birds also have the same problems with their "beaks" if they are not given the proper food and calcium sticks to keep them from growing too long. Sorry for any confusion!

I have seen this same condition on a F8 in the pet store. It was slightly offcenter, but looked exactly like it. I think if we have 3 occurrences recorded now, it's likely some kind of common condition, and I'm glad it seems to resolve itself, as I was worried about the little guy in the pet shop and had no way of helping him.

Both boys on the mend!! Done another water change today, thought I'd keep with a weekly change until Weeman's better, still a tiny bit of swelling, but again reduced from yesterday and the abrasion just about gone.
On the teeth topic, I've never had to trim Weeman's teeth (touch wood!!) and I've had him nearly 3 years, I have a colomesus whose teeth are a nightmare, no matter what I feed him I have to trim every 4-5 months. But Weeman does a fantastic job of keeping them down himself.
I notice Bob's kept on sand, Weeman is too, would it be possible cause of infection in the jaw? If a grain was to be lodged below the jaw line????

That seems like a very good possibility. I really don't see how it could have been anything other than an infection.

You know how humans get ingrown hairs and they are kinda like zits?

Could it be possible for Puffs to get ingrown spines???

Or am I just reaching?

Well, I think anything is open to possibility at this point. Bob is healing up very nicely, so it could have been something like that as he did not seem too bothered with it.
