I was going to say c. irrubesco (red tail red eye puffer) the pufferpedia now states 20g minimum rather than 10g per fish though so i would hold off on that until you get a second opinion from the senior members.

For future use, if the puffer addiction takes hold (which it will) 10g tanks make perfect snail breeding tanks for a cheap renewable source of food and to keep their teeth trimmed.

Thanks for all your help. As far as snails go I’m going to put some in one of my Oscar tanks and my community tank for right now, but that the 10 gal is a great Idea for later on.

I've always been told never to mix the water from the lfs with my aquarium water.

I float the bag for about 30 minutes and then start pouring out some of the lfs water and adding some of mine from the tank. Each time I seal the bag again with a rubber band. After about an hour, I pour out all the water through a net. Then I put the fish in my tank.

I've read and been told that lfs water may have impurities or carry some disease.

Is that adding fish to an already established tank with fish. That would be a big no as you say there could be all sorts of disease but that is the main justification for quarantine tanks so the fish can be held for a period of time (4-6 weeks) so you can see if there is any disease and treat accordingly. Then when the fish is healthy and any potential disease has been eradicated it can be added to the main tank.

If the only fish you are going to put in the tank is the one in the bag then it's not going to make much difference if they are in a QT tank or in the main tank. The main difference would be the QT tank would be less decorated and most likely smaller and easier to clean and treat for disease.

Netting most fish and lifting them is not a problem but puffers aren't most fish and if I could avoid exposing them to air for any amount of time that would be the route I would take. JMO.
