You don't need to cycle the tank as you do with fish but, just do big weekly water changes on it and dechlorinate the water.

Get as many snails as you can to start with, they'll soon start to breed.

Would you say that 20 - 40 is enough?

How long should it take before I have snails to feed my F8's? Like do they have a 2 week grow out from birth to feeding size?

Might take a couple of months to get a decent stock where they are a decent size and you have enough to regularly feed them.

Based on that I think I should get 20-40 that way I'll be covered for a bit while I'm waiting for the babies to get going.

I bought a blue mystery snail and then got an apple snail a few days later, and we found a huge sac of eggs at the top of our tank about a week ago.. I guess we got lucky =p

So, we're going to start our own lil snail breeding tank tonight hopefully. I did read somewhere that male snails will just 'mount' any female snail, regardless of species, so you might just get lucky from having two of them.

I'm not sure about the ones you bought, but I googled "Wilma Snails" (was suggested on here) and I ordered 10 ramshorns for about $10. They are now breeding steadily and I have enough to feed my two figure 8s on a steady basis if I want.
