YA I DID, or i think, the sponge faces out right? or atleast that's how it's' always been, cause i was like well why don't i turn it so the sponge faces inside so the crap gets couhgt faster, so i turned it and forgot all the gunk that's cought on the other side, but i know for a fact that when i put it in the first time the sponge part is facing outwards dont' know even if that's correct LOL, and i have this bio bag, does that do anything? it's kinda gross last time i look at it, it's like darksih green, is that normal?

The BioBag should be rinsed, if it looks gross.

Its a Whisper? The frame part of the sponge should be facing the place where the water flows back into the tank. The biobag shouldn't be green, no. You should rinse both the sponge and the biobag in tank water during your water changes every week, and clean the tube that the water goes up. If your biobag is really nasty, get a new one. Or what we do is just use regular polyfill floss. Its just pillow stuffing from Wal-Mart (craft stores, K-Mart, etc., all have it). Just make sure its marked "hypoallergenic" or it will have chemicals that will kill your fish. Pull off a wad and losely stuff it into the place where the biobag goes. Again, rinse it out weekly when you do water changes.
