Profile: Arothron caerulopunctatus

Common Name: Blue-spotted Puffer

This is not a caeruleopunctatus - it is a hispidus.

Caeruleonigropunctatus can approach almost 5 feet in the wild!!

I was first to id this photo. After your question I did some research. I still stand as it being Arothron caerulopunctatus

I have seen a 26 inch one in captivity and the spots are truly blue not white. I have pics on my home computer that I can share.

Rocker,

It looks like the "classic" arothron hispidus.

All the pictures and the one I actually saw in captivity, of the caeruleonigropunctatus have the circles (varying numbers) around the eyes. The fins have spots as well.

Rocker, I just emailed you a document that I just quickly typed up on the Spiny Boxfish puffer. I even included a photo of one that I got permission for as long as I added them in my references.

Everybody doing those articles gave the idea to type one up since I do have one of these puffers.

I feel it will be a great addition to the Pufferpedia.
