Do you mean you have to top-off 2x as much?

Floating the bag of ice helped get my temps right again. I still lost my female dp Penelope last night though :( I cut back my plants and my tank looks so naked and empty without my porky little puffers and foliage I just want to cry. Looking to the glass is half full direction though my kuhli and pleco look much better today.
I am going to miss Percy and Penelope, I got them 3 years ago when my husband was stationed in north carolina. They did the cross country drive with me when we moved to california (thank you so much myaj for the tips that made that trip successful) my husband thinks I'm a sap for getting weepy over this but they were so much different than any other fish Ive kept before, they each had their own little personality and i just loved them.
I want to thank you guys for helping me with the right information to give them proper care before this happened. With your information I was able to grow live plants and make my tank into a habitat my puffers really loved, and breed a snail colony that kept them just this side of morbidly obese

Sorry for your loss. If it makes you feel any better, 3-5 years is about their lifespan, I believe.
