Apparently, they made an agreement with our suppliers that they can't send us any other color parrot cichlid than the orange ones. Is that stupid or what?)

Rocker- they are in brackish water. So then they are GSP labeled as Leopard puffers? Boy, they really don't look good

My GSP is brownish tannish with a bright yellow cap.... There was one full yellow one at the store and I thought I pointed him out but maybe they gave me the wrong one. I know a lot of it is based on mood, but I've had Gus about a month and no bright yellow. The salinity is at about 1.007 now.

Carefull! That is the easiest and worst reason to buy a puffer--or any other fish for that matter. If the fish looks that bad, he will probaby die soon after costing you tons of money and heartache. And don't forget, the LFS will consider them to be big sellers and they will order more to replace the ones they sold to you. Resist the temtpation until you can find a healthy puffer to bring home.

I know...you're totally right. I actually stood there wondering how I could get rid of all of my tropicals in my 20 gallon so I could bring one home. I was very strong and walked out...puffer-less. I am currently getting a 10 gallon ready for some DP's, and am thinking about turning my 20 gallon into a figure-8 tank someday. I'll see how the DP's go first!

I wonder how much marine salt is really in there. For most shops a pinch of aquarium salt is called BW.

Seems I've just been educated !! My 2 "Leopard" Puffers were bought at Pecto and labled "African Leopard Puffers". After reading the forum here, and gleening some other info off the net, I'm convinced that they are, in reality, GSP's. For what it's worth, they were very happy and healthy when I bought them, and are active little pigs here at home !! Off to change my sig !! Thanks.

You'll also want to shop for a larger tank for the GSPs. Two in a 10-gallon tank will not cut it for very long as they should have ~30 gallons each and they do grow very fast. GSPs are fun to keep though, so the investment is worthwhile.

I purchased 2 GSPs from Petco and neither of them have much color. They eat heartily and are in great health, so I don't worry much about it. When I bought them, there was one in the tank that was a stunning green in color, but he didn't seem happy, his tummy was almost black. While I wanted a green one, I love them as they are.
