Do I need to cover the intake or put it inside the tube???

I use FilterMax sponges for most prefilters theses days, as their connector assorment included in the box mate with most of my applications. FilterMaxI is the finest, and what i would (and have) used for fine sand.

Ok, so once the sponge it on, can I restart the filter??? How long or how cloudy can the water be before I restart the filter?

There is a kit for a sponge that goes over powerheads.

Quick question- Could I retrofit a sponge to put over the intake of my Aquaclear or would that hurt the filter somehow?

Wouldnt hurt. There are some filter intake pieces that are sold to do exaclty that.

Just have to wrinse it pretty often so there is no clogging.

Oh.. Lol. I didn't know that!

Cool. That will make things easier when I convert my F8 tank to sand.
