It was Arothron Stellatus. The list price was $199 for a 4-5" specimen but if you went to the website and printed out a coupon it was only $99. How can it be a good fish for the aquarium trade when fishbase says it gets to 120cm in length?
I talked to Chris at Tideline (where the puffer is at) and his reference info said they only get to 90cm. That still over 35" of fish. He said that they dont get that big in the aquarium. He's kept a lot of puffers in his time so I usually trust his judgement in these matters but IMO the goal of keeping fish in an aquarium is to closely mimic its natural environment and be able to observe these fascinating creatures as you would in nature. I know its not truly possible - but its a goal.
90cm is a whole lotta puffer. You would need at least 1000g for this fish - it was very active when I saw it too. Absolutely stunning though - closely matched the pictures above.
