These are gorgeous puffers but unfortunately they are not as hardy as their common morph variety.

The little guy in the avatar has been a struggle for me over the last 3 years - have really learned a lot about this morph over the last 8 years. Hope to publish findings soon

Is that called a "dalmation" puffer? It should be!

Yes it is the "Dalmatian puffer" - arothron nigropunctatus from the Solomon Islands.

From this area - they can be coal black with white fins to varying degrees of blue/gray/brown with black spots - they are like snowflakes - no two look the same externally.

I'd love to go diving there someday!

My LFS had what he called Dalmation puffers in last month but I'm not sure it was the same species, it was pure black with white spots covering the body.
