I have several little cave for my BBGs and none of them use them. I have never seen them in the caves. It is a little frustrating.

I don't think you will regret that setup. F8's have supersize personalities. Even without the F8 in the tank (which you should definitely have) the BBG will keep you entertained with their antics. Like it was mentioned before though, don't be surprised at the sudden disappearance of one or more of you BBG.

How are you cycling their tank?

A friend of mine has a brackish tank with a couple knight gobies he gave me some water filter media and substrate to use in my set up. It's been in there just sitting for about 2 weeks and I've been doing water tests every few days

Wow thanks probably just saved me he told me since I was using stuff from an established tank I wouldn't have to do anything and it would just grow the bacteria from there looks like there will be a little delay on adding fish

He is sort of correct, tank water is useless. Filter media and substrate is good but you need a bio-load in the tank to make use of them if that makes sense?

i realize that now that I'm thinking about it kinda feel like an idiot what would be best for me to do from the point I'm at now that would work the fastest?

Can you get another clump of his used filter media? Are you starting at the same sg as his tank? Or freshwater

I'll see if I can and about the same sg I saw another post of instant cycles would one of those work in this case or are they only for strict fresh or saltwater

There is no reason why safestart wouldn't work, having said that a 50% water change would dramatically drop your sg to close to f/w anyhow, so you should be good. Are the f8 kept in freshwater at your lfs? If so it would make acclimatation easier if you dropped your sg a little, you could always raise it once you know your tank is stable

When I spoke with the salesman he clarified that they were a brackish fish and he'd have to order out so I am assuming that they will be in brackish Im going to stop by on the way home from work and ask
