It does look like an immaculate. And yes more rock and get your skimmer pump asap. Im in the same bost as you right now, working with no skimmer. But i have been doing 50% weeklies while i set money aside for a remora.

if it had come from an established tank with LR, I should think it might be possible for it to have been seeded by the types of life which prefer the surface of the rock - Being in a home aquarium, how deep could it really have been buried?

Would be interested to see how it works out for you, if you kept the rock as is.

Additionally you should ditch the bubbler. In a salt tank its just going to cause spray, creep, and will etch your canopies.

Agreed. I only use bubblers when medicating- they also speed up evaporation, I loose enough water without help.

so do you use a venturi or anything? how do you keep your water aerated?

As it stands now i have one power head aimed at the surface for agitation and a hob refugium. I have pearling on all of my macro and the small amount of nuisance alga on my live rock.

Yes, get more live rock asap. Base rock when seeded with established live rock takes a minimum of 6 months to more like a year to become "live". Think of the live rock as your biological filter system, the more you have the better off and more stable your system will be. A good quality skimmer is always a plus as well since it helps filter and clean the water, basically keeping the unwanted bacteria out.

Wow thanks for the great feedback everybody I really appreciate it! Ok will get rid of the bubbles and find more proper live rock. They sold him as a dog face puffer. Luckily I got a nice christmas bonus and going to get my skimmer tomorrow or the day after.

oh sweet

I had my venturi off for a while recently as i was running my external skimmer in the day. My GSP seemed to pace less then but that might be a coincidence :S I'm gonna go back to running the skimmer when I get to make it all sturdy and fail safe because as it stands I don't trust the thing not to flood the floor if it springs a leak or something like that.

Ok so a quick update, I got a nice skimmer rated for a 200l tank, still fine tuning it. Going to get proper live rock next week. I'm treating the puff with prazi for 5 days, he's very interactive and eating well. He puffed up for my sister's boyfriend (will post a pic) ,and the boyfriend didn't do anything to him but it only lasted long enough to take a quick blurry pic. He and the maroon clown basically ignore each other.

They don't seem to stay puffed long... They'll puff right in front of you and as soon as they see a phone/camera, they'll deflate lol
