I really like him. Been slowly interacting with me.

I tried a NLS pellet for fun and it went after it but would not eat it. I then gave it a little thawed tilapia and it ate it with no issue. So looks like as long as I feed slowly a small piece at a time and it sinks slowly, he will eat it.

Good---he could use some fattening up.

Speaking of... I never was warned about what they look like after they eat. The flexible tummy looks really weird and stretched out in all directions after they first eat. Kind of settles back in place after a little bit. One of those things that is a bit gross but kind of fascinating.

You can see earthworms wriggling if you feed small ones. They get sucked in whole, like spaghetti

Yet strangely fascinating

Life w/o rigid ribs is not like most fish. That is part of the fascination of puffers.

Awww love him. Maybe I'm strange, but in good company. Some say I'd like to get a lurker, I like their little eyes peaking out of the substrate.

Thanks Bear, us lurkers have to stick together! My little guy does not bury himself. I am using the CaribSea Blue Ridge gravel so its not really friendly to bury himself in. He sits on the top, out in the open quite a bit, even though he has cave structures.

Why not add sand to that gravel? Even 25% would help.

I have sand in my other tanks, this one was supposed to look like a river scape which it does. The puffer seems content enough so I will leave it be for now.

So I think this puffer was a perfect choice for my situation. The 40B I use to house him is located in our home office. It is not high traffic by any means like where my 210g is located in the living room. With the sedentary life of the puffer I think it works well. He does seem to recognize me as his feeder and comes out and begs when I come into the room. He does not easily startle and interacts with me when I give him attention. Very happy with my choice in puffer and am glad I chose the hairy puffer. Still dont have a name for him....
