Pufferpunk wrote:B-S will be iffy at best, at your SG. A bit too low for SW bacteria & way too high for FW bacteria to survive. Be sure to add it directly to your filter. Expect some bacteria die off, unless you want to raise the SG a bit, to around 1.018.

I agree with Craigslist, you can find some kick-a$$ deals on there! I found a 180g gorgeous tank with oak cabinet & canopy for $400!
I'll look around and see what I can find. Would the little guys be alright in the current set up for a month or two? Also, I have purchased B-S. Wish me luck. Thanks for all the help. I'm glad I joined the forum!

I should pour it on the media correct?

Yes, directly on your filter media, AFTER a 80% WC. I wouldn't do another WC for 48 hours, unless the fish seem distressed. Gives the bacteria colonies time to attach themselves. DO keep BW mixed & ready for WC at at all times, until the ammonia/nitrite remain at 0 without one.

I managed to get a few Figure 8 puffer through cycling a 50l tank. It wasn't easy. My advice is keep doing water changes, make sure you only feed them as much as they eat in 5 min or whenever they start to seem disinterested, and keep a look out for changes in their appearance or behavior (Though if you're like me you won't need to be reminded to watch them :P)

Yeah I watch them constantly. So do the 80% water change add directly on the filter media then water changes weekly after the 48hours?

No, do WC according to your daily test results. The B-S may not take as well as it should at that SG.

I have started raising it slow to make the B-S hopefully take a little better. The B-S will be here Saturday so I can get the salinity up to around 1.021 before then hopfully.

Even 1.018 should be fine for now.

Tested SG read 1.015. I added a little salt. I've also been looking around for tanks believe I found would that included a stand filter light etc etc for a good price. Will keep posted.

I've found a 55gal with filters stand and some other accessories for 125

That's a great size for a singleton. My 2 were cramped in a 55g. Imagine 2 Nerf footballs swimming in there. It is certainly better than a 40g but I'd go 75g if you can.

I'll keep looking around and keep you updated. Hopefully I find something. I'll post pictures shortly. And let me know what you think about my puffers. I believe one may be passing because he seems to be very tiny compared to the other guy. But he eats like a champion.

If he's still eating, then by all means, please treat for IPs: library/hospital/internal-parasites-pre ... treatment/
