ONe of the things I love about being a SAHpuffer slave is I can go to LFSs during thier quiet time and spend some one-on-one time talking the the guys/gals who order the fish and talk about fish in general and puffers in specific with the staff.
when we first kept puffers in the UK, we quickly got known round Maidenhead Aquatics stores as being " Smarter than your average bear..er...fish-keeper Boo-Boo" and they actively looked out for new puffers for us.
A good LFS wants commited fish-slaves ,places like Pet Cemetry don't really care as long as they can pedal new fish to the masses.

Basically I agree, but we should find out who does the ordering and go back to them and educate those people rather than passively sitting back and criticizing. So many times I have been told there are no fresh water puffers... so the non "boss" types say that's what they were told (irrespective of reality), We try to engage the decision makers on the ordering side and get them a basis on Puffers and their needs otherwise the mistakes are repeated. Personally I prefer the phrase "ignorant" in the true sense of the word rather than "uneducated" which is condescending. I believe its our duty to educate and engage staff if we have the knowledge and in real life suggests they do not have the omniscient boss and so they can be "educated" as the buck stops there... rather than the temporary non-invested person you are likely to be talking to.
We all are in learning mode and its better to educate when you can make a contribution rather than declare people "uneducated" in the dark secrets of pufferdom..
Please do not take this the wrong way but Puffer education will lead a better situation rather than chastising people as "uneducated in the way of the puffer"
Dr PufferGhoti BSc, MSC, PhD, but still a enthusiastic "Learner" at pufferdom, despite keeping many puffers and often beyond the size of known species and being asked to identify new imports. Its an ongoing challenge or do we not keep "pets" ?
I would prefer to be labelled as misinformed than ignorant. To me ignorance suggests that you have no desire to learn. But hey that's the English language for you; many words can have similar meaning and what upsets one will not upset another.

It's not a fangs. Better pic need for id, especially a side profile under better light.
What ever it is, separate it from the other puffers.
I prefer to think of pet store employees with this quote, "it is hard to fill a cup that is already full". Meaning they will often ignored info that contradicts what they have always believed. Just like you can't convince some one that big foot it is not real when they have spent their lives believing in big foot.

Some pet store employees can be quite knowledgeable about some groups of fish, but too few are aware of how very different the entire puffer family is from other fish families. They are odd-balls and have special needs and care. Also do remember that pet stores are generally entry-level jobs - it is not practical for stores to extensively train all employees.
Most advanced hobbyists are largely self-trained, whether they work in pet stores or not. Many folks who work in pet stores are in the difficult state of having "a little learning", which we all know is a dangerous thing and which frequently leads to misinformation being given out to the public. That is not usually done maliciously, but is commonly just by lack of knowledge.

Fig8 and cutcutia are not a long term mix... if you are setting up another tank you may 'get away with it' but its still better to have a divider available... when those impulse/strategic buys happen...

they just followed me home ....honest!
