Something that I did for many years, although some may not agree with my methods: After determining how much salt it took to replace what I removed in my 50% weekly WC, I'd slowly add the salt to the impeller side of my Aquaclear filter, as the tank was filling with fresh water.

I did something very similar. I would mix the apropriate amount of salt in a 3/4 full 1 gallon jug of water and shake the heck out of it. Then I would do a regular water change with my water changer with fresh tapwater. Then I would set the jug on top of the AC70 and siphon the water with an airline into the filter's output stream. As I recall it took like 10 or 20 minutes to drain the jug. I forgot I used to do that.

I gave up carrying buckets many decades ago. I might be in better physical shape if I still did manual water changes, but my floors and rugs might not be and I would not have many fish tanks
In my house, water is pumped, mixed, aged, and pumped again. Manual labor is not part of the process. Next month I will be 75, and still run 15 tanks.

Yes please dont place your puffers in freshwater.
