What source of "beneficial bacteria"? Most bottled bacteria is dead.

If your other tank is disease free add some filter media from there to your dp tank. If you are experiencing spikes you need to do lots of large partials until it settles down.

I'd advise against keeping the ghost shrimp in there full-time, too. Baby DPs probably aren't capable of successfully killing and eating them, but they will probably harass the shrimp and bite off eyes, etc. Kind of a crummy existence for the shrimp -- I like live food to be killed quickly and consumed promptly.

Welcome to the wonderful world of puffers! DPs are a special favorite of mine. They pack a ton of personality into a small package, and I'm sure you're going to thoroughly enjoy yours.

Just a quick thing that I have heard good reports from Nerite Snails being able to withstand DP attack. These maybe a better clean up crew than blind shrimps.

If your DPs are fussy on eating dead food then the option of whiteworms is a good one. Get a few tubs of these going and no need to go the LFS for food again and you get your Fridge back too! No more worms in the Fridge; Yuck!

You keep these worms at about 15c, in the dark, they live in Garden Compost in tubs and eat Oatmeal and blanched Spinach-
