Hey Tim, get yourself a 'D&D RO Booster Pump' to add to your RO unit. You'll be able to make RODI water alot quicker. Rather than taking all night to fill a Jerry can/bottle it'll only take an hour or two.

I use tap with a dechlorinator. It comes out the tap as liquid rock, nigh-on PH8, but I've got figure 8's that prefer hard water.

My only issue is that it comes out the tap with nitrate readings up to 50ppm but since it doesn't go up between water changes and isn't waste produced in the tank - just farmers fertilisers - I'm assuming/hoping that it won't cut my puffers lives short and will be good for the plants in the tank. I used to use RO or rainwater, if available, but ditched them about 3 years ago and haven't noticed any ill effects.

Yep, RODI made at home for my reef tanks but this is in the FW forum.

My water is from a communiy water supply, part deep aquifer plus some shallower ground watert (the latter added a few years ago to meet higher demands without restrictions in summer). It is fine for fish with choline/chloramine removal.

I'm in the process of deciding... I started up my tank with RO water from the lfs, but have started to use sink water+dechlor for water changes of late. I'm not sure which to use permanently for a BW tank... I'm not big on the idea of putting my fish in water I wouldn't drink; my water tastes like it comes straight from the swimming pool. I might be a spoiled country boy though haha, where I live (when not in college), the well water is great! The areas soil is predominately made up of sand, so the water is awesome, my dad doesn't even use a water softener for our water like some people do for their wells. Also, no sulfur (rotten egg) smell like some people get.

I have decided to purchase prime from Seachem. I read on it and suppose to be the best. I didnt realize prime in reference to water was a proudct to make aquarium safe water. I will be saving #&@&# of money not buying water @ lfs for .44 cents a gallon ... great discussion thanks!

Now a question on usage, it treats 50 gallons per cap. If i for example, want to change out 20 gallons how would i do that. Do i remove the dirty water first and then add 20 gallons of tap and finally add a cap to treat the whole tank water ( 1cap if its 50 gallon tank, 2 if 100 gallons etc.), or do i portion out the prime into 20gallons and just treat rhe 20gallons prior to placing the water in the tank.....hope that made sense

I have 4 five gallon jugs. If 5ml treats 50 gallons that would mean i would use .5ml per jug?

You can dose the 20g before adding, or add to the tank before adding tap water, if you do the later option you dose for the whole tank.

I've been using Tetra aquasafe when I've used tap water, I'm gonna convert to prime soon lol, I can buy 100ml off ebay for 6.99 shipped. Anyways, my main question I've been trying to poke around at is... should I discontinue use of RODI water and use tap+ prime for my BW tank?

Since 90% of us are doing WC with a Python, we don't use preconditioned water from buckets. We must dose the entire volume of the tank, before refilling.

What is a python in this context?

I dose each bucket with a syringe, but my current aquarium is still manageable with a bucket for WCs
