eeeee so excited tomorrow my puffers arive im thinking hours and hours od drip aclimation. ill also test what sort of sg the water they come in is and try to get it there

What puffers are you getting? What SG are they in now? What SG are you dripping them to? How long has the tank been set up?

they are Tetractenos hamiltoni from what i have been told, they are wild caught so i dont know what sg they are in now but my tank is fully cycled and currently at an sg of .012 so ill need to drip them to that and work on bring them up to a higher sg

If they're wild caught, can't you test the water they're from with your hydrometer?

Im not the one catching them...they are half a country away from me this is why im having trouble..

Well i got my.puffers and get this the sg was.008 so i have been drip aclimating them so they.will be in there tank in the next hour. Ill post

well here they are!!! i got three of em and they are mostly in good shape but one is very thin but ill get him good n fat. they have been in there for about half an hour and are already keen on eating some prawn.

How big is the tank? What SG? I thought their spots were yellow?

the tank is a 55g and the sg is currently at 0.012 (they where found in 0.008, spawning me thinks) also there colour changes a fair bit from what i have seen so far from very pale to dark like the second photo. im so glad i took the plunge and got these guys (there is a good chance im the only one in my state with these guys as pets).
my next question is feeding, i have been working on a snail breeding project and have heeps of eggs im waiting on so when they hatch ill gut load em on quality vegies. should i also be feeding prawn, bloodworm etc. whats a wel rounded diet for puffers? there diatary needs are just so diffrent to anything elce i have kept (except maby turtles,bar the crunchy stuff)

thanks for the article, im just wondering i guess how much vegitable matter am i trying to get into these guys or are vegies really just not important to puffers. what are your feeding routeins like?

I like to feed all my fish veggies as it keeps them regular lol. Most of there wild diets consist of eating crustations which eat veg so I try to keep it relatively high in their diet. Mine regularly get peas, their live food is loaded with algae wafers, good quality pellet foods and various vegetation.
