Cal. Visit your Lfs and offer to remove pest snails for them, then once you have a bag full put a couple of quid in their Xmas fund and they will welcome you back anytime. Keep them in a bucket till you are ready to feed

No kidding, I use a fluval edge for ramhorns and I didnt put gravel in the tank, oh my, how easy they cover the bottom with poop. Before I did have gravel so I didnt notice it

Do you have anything in the buckets as far as filter, heater, etc.?
I have a 5 gallon set up with a filter, gravel, few fake plants, and just picked up a heater for it today. I was originally going to use it for snail but am not thinking I will use it for the shrimp now. I was talking to my mom about all I was doing and she happened to mention having a small tank there (like 1-3 gallons, not sure yet) that I can have. So I'm leaning towards using that for snails.
And what kind of snails are you breeding?
