Only difference in the 2 species is your puffer will grow a bit larger & need a 40-55g tank.

If you have any open wound, you should never expose that to any aquarium water. Open lesions, which includes fresh scratches or insect bites or any scrapes or cuts, to aquarium water as there is always the possibility of contamination by Mycobacterum narinum, a.k. a fish TB. It is a nasty infection and very difficult to treat.
