I named my African grey parrot Nickey, because there's no surefire way to know if they're males or females except through surgical means, and if you're not going to breed them it really isn't worth the expense and risk. The vet believes the bird is a male, but if he turns out to be a Nikki instead of a Nickey at least the pronunciation is the same. :)

My wife's Aunt and Uncle has African Grey's but both are males. There is ways to tell but I forget what it was or is. Well if it lays eggs then you sure know that you dont have a male...lol And another way is when they start feeling like they need some love. Oh yeah you will be able to tell...lol Males and females do things differently :redface: ...lol
