One thing I cannot understand is if a Mbu needs 1000g tank then why does a Arothron Mappa that also grows to 26inches has a suggested minimum sized tank of only 250g?!

Live rock is very efficient, f/w filtration is not. For example f/w tanks require 50% w/c weekly, a similarly stocked s/w with similar stocking and the correct amount of l/r will only require appr 20% weekly

From what they were saying in that discussion, I could put an arowana in a 29g and say he was happy cos I fed him well
With people like that you could do all the studies, give them the info and they'd probably still say their puffer was happy in his little box

We do have many here who started out at MFK. Rarely do they start out here & then move over there.

I can honestly say i'm VERY happy I found this forum and NOT MFK first. I will NEVER see the point in "half assing" something and like many people i was wrong (had little knowledge on puffers) to keep my F8's in the 15gal tank which is why I am heeding to the advice here and moving them into their 55 gal (IN 2 WEEKS BTW!).
From what i've read in that post and a few others they are ignorant, where here people share what has worked for them for YEARS with puffers. And even though this is a puffer forum i've gotten great advice on filters, tank set-ups, other tank mates i've known nothing about. People may seem harsh from time to time here *cough* RTR *Cough* haha j/k but if you are passionate about something you do than you don't want to see people half buttocks it.
So yes MFK kinda worthless forum and seem to be about overstocking tanks because it looks good? and here its about keeping a good healthy and long lasting tank/aquarium. So thank you again for all the great advice!

This is exactly why we are here. Sometimes new peops thing we are harse for straight away pointing out that tanks are too small etc. The fact is we get to the point so others can enjoy their puffers as much as we do. Thankyou for bigging us up, and when your 55 is set you will see what we rave about, understocked tanks are just immense they really are.

The MTS owner got bent out of shape when I left AC immediately with his take-over there. He knows - if he still remembers, which I would doubt - it has been years. I'm afraid that to me those are the two worst sites I have seen on the web. I do not make any secret of that either, so they are likely aware of my thoughts on their knowledge of captive aquatics. I don't waste any time worrying about their opinions. Their disapproval of me and my techniques I consider a high complement on m suggestions for good tank management.

Actually, I believe it was AC that posted you a "wish you well" thread a couple years ago. Some were wondering where you had re-located and were sending their regards.

As I said, I do feel sorry for the members there. But only a fool batters their head against a stone wall. If the operator of a site believes in massive under-housing and that quick fixes work just fine, there is no future in expressing contrary opinions. I had rather not waste my time. The members have the same options - they can leave the site to those with opinions matching the operator.
