I didn't get a chance to read his post before it was edited but I'll assume it was because I didn't do proper research and preparation before buying my puffer fish. You are correct to be mad and upset because of this, it is foolish of me and unfair to the fish. But, it is what it is, and I have joined this forum to learn more so I can make the fish as comfortable as possible. You may want to direct your frustration at the thousands of others who haven't joined this forum and remain ignorant with their fish.. God knows what they are doing wrong, right?

Pufferpunk, we had a talk today and are going to buy the new large tank early, because once we buy our new home, chances are the new tank will sink (ha, good pun) to the bottom of our priority list. The puffer will move to the big tank and the smaller fish will stay put.
I'm having a great time browsing youtube videos and reading threads here, great stuff! I will be a regular visitor and will post pictures ASAP of our new buddy. We still haven't named him btw!

good morning!! Welcome to the forum! I am from East York but grew up in Scarborough. Not too many people here from the GTA.
Forget about the price of the fish... just focus on the keeping of him / her comfortable.

Hi JP! I am not from the GTA but moved here about a year ago with my wife, we both work in the city now. We are up in North York near Allen Rd. I bought the puffer from Big Als, there is one in Scarborough I have been to, and two in North York. Being pretty new to the GTA this is the only good chain of fish store I have discovered yet, maybe you know a better one?

On another note, about Kijiji. My wife is kind of funny about used items, sometimes she is okay with it but it seems she has her heart set on a new fish tank. She saw one in Big Als on a pretty stand that is all set up and ready to go. I will keep an eye on the ads though, maybe I will get lucky.

Sorry for splitting the topic.... Big Al's is Ok... but not great. #1 treat for internal parasites. That goes for anything that comes from them. Always QT.

kijiji is fantastic... I love it. You have to know what you are looking for... If you know, you can get some amazing deals. Tank only ... shoot for $1.00 / gallon. You can go up from there or negotiate.

Since you are new to the GTA... there are a few local mom and pop shops that are excellent but it is a bit of a drive... also check out the forum GTAA. They are mostly sales and swap so you can get some really good deals on used equipment and if you want to go salt water in the future... then, that is your source. Or any other GTA questions please don't hesitate to PM me.

I'm also from the GTA, just wondering if that Fahaka made it. I miss fresh water, I've had bad lick with saltwater puffers. I current have a Starry and Mappa Puffer both off and on with ick which is driving me crazy, I also have clown, Picasso and undulate triggers in there (one of each). They are never sick. Puffers are my unicorn of fish keeping. I've grown out 2 fahaka puffers to 13 and 14 inches and 1 mbu to about 12. Sold 1 fahaka and lost the other to a heater malfunction. The mbu went to a friend with a larger tank I only have a 125.
