The biggest problem is, though, that they didn't contact him when it happened. I would have a very frank - but diplomatic - talk with them before you leave them with the tank again. It's important to tell petsitters that it is OK to call if anything anything anything goes wrong, and that you won't blame them or be angry if it turns out to be their fault. I think some sitters see things go wrong and think it was their fault, and then you come back to a problem that's 20x worse because they didn't ask you what to do.

I think most of us are so concerned about feeding, we forget to tell our fish-sitters to check the mechanics of the tank.

Yeah... I write out a very long, detailed guide ahead of time explaining what they need to check every day - temperature, whether anything has shut off, etc. I re-read it a few times over the following days to make sure that it's ALL there when I hand it over.

Both my older brother, his fiancee and my parents friends who own fish knew what happened while I was away, my mom said she was worried it was her fault the whole time and couldn't think of how to break it to me.
I was told on the ride home from the airport what had happened.

In any case, the power head failed over night, all the fish likely died before my parents even saw what had happened since my mom said she fed them before she went to bed and they were acting normal.

I went out today to buy a master test kit, new bin of salt and a koralia evolution to replace the broken power head. I buried my porc puff in my backyard, never knew I could be so attached to a pet fish, I loved my puffer so much
