Dear All,
It is with a sullen heart that I announce to you that Beetroot has passed on to Pufferland.
After a day and a night of struggling with the unknown ailment, Beety succumbed to the disease.

Thank you all for your concern and loads of help.
I will now address some of the queries from you and also offer my prognosis to the cause of death.

Temperature:
The temperature of the tank is room temperature. We live in tropical Singapore and hence did not need a heater to bring up the temp.
Having said that, I did consider adding in the heater to bring it up to 30 deg C. But I refrained from doing so as the ailment had not been adequately diagnosed.

Medical Treatment:
I dosed the tank with Primafix and Melafix in an attempt to cover bases.
As the day progressed the patch seems to flake off indicating that it is fungal in nature.
So the treatment was correct, but Beetroot was in such a weakened state that it was too late to help.

Prognosis:
Beetroot was observed not to have any interest at all in his food when we fed him.
As he swam up to the front of the tank, I noticed severe swelling around his right eye up to his lips and scratch marks around his forehead.
Later in the evening the swelling dissipated but Beetroot remained in a "stunned" state, not willing to eat.
That was the state that he remained in for the rest of the time, stunned.
I suspect that the main injury is severe trauma to the head causing the swelling and the scratches.
Towards the last hours, his face seems to have swollen totally such that its normally protruding eyes were flush with his face.
The fungal infection resulted from the open scratch wounds which may have contributed but not leading to death.

Well, Beetroot's happy photo will be up in the main page of the forum for a couple more days before the end of the year. He was POTY for 2010. Memories whenever we see that photo of his.
