The auto correct on the swype smartphones is pretty awful too, it just has to have a similar swipe path.

Whoever said that you must drill tanks to use sumps, well, let's just say that they are seriously mistaken. I have more sumps than tanks, all FW ATM, and have zero drilled tanks.

And whoever said that sumps are only for BW and SW is equally mistaken. See above.

There are many commercial and DIY techniques and equipment for over-the-side or back tank connections, most of which work, some of which work extremely well.

Sumps or other refugia are perfectly suitable and can be highly effective in any water condition for many purposes.

Just because things are not commonly used by novices does not in any sense mean that they are not fully useful in many situations.

Equally, things which are commonly used by novices are not - because of that fact - not equally useful to anyone.

Prejudices blind folks to fully valid options.

i agree with our staff.. i fully support the use of Sumps on all the tanks, FW, BW or SW they do an excellent work with any water parameters.

Okay, I've done a little research, and understand how they work.

Do you all make your own sump filtration systems and ordering special pieces, or buying it? How many gallons should mine be for a 75g tank?

Ah never mind, I see I need thirty gallons for a 75g tank.

You can go as large as you like. No real maximum on sumps from my understanding.

Thats Right, i´ve seen SW tanks with sumps that are the same size than the ornamental tank, so the bigger the better hehehe

Now you are beginning to understand. It is not really confusing, it is just open-ended. Sumps or linked tanks have a venerable history. "Sumps" technically refers to a vessel below the display, but in practice it may on the same level or even above the display - but that last is uncommon. I do above the display only for passive return macroalgae refugia.

Many folks refer to sumps only as filters, but they are not restricted to any particular use.

You just select what you have room for and use for whatever you do not want to see in the display. Displays do look better with minimum equipment showing. Some are just to increase the system volume - which is valuable for SW FOWLR set-ups; or for conventional filtration; or for veggie filters;, or DSB or plenums - whatever you want. I also use them in FW for fry-rearing of tiny fry without sudden changes in water parameters.
