I would have picked cat, but it said bacon.
My cats are obedient. Cats are trainable, most people just don't bother because they think they can't learn commands. One of my cats even fetches. They all know their names, they know verbal and pantomime commands. Sometimes they listen better than the stubborn dachshunds!

+1. Our dachshunds are EXTREMELY obedient and know tons of helpful commands, but getting them there was quite difficult. I've only ever rescued one cat that learned any noteworthy tricks, but I know several friends who have some pretty cool cats.

Still... I vote for dogs.

True true true! A lot of people also don't realize that when a cat has a behavior issue, you can actually deal with it through training a lot of the time (depending on the cause of the problem). I haven't needed to train Astrid, but I have a book on solving behavior problems that I got for light reading, and it's got a whole slew of ways I can work with her if something should come up. I wish vets and shelters emphasized behavior training more - there would be a lot less cats surrendered at shelters or homeless on the streets, euthanized within weeks or starving, diseased, and dying. There would be a lot less declawing, too (whyyy isn't that illegal in America yet???).

We're so totally backwards about that stuff here. Dog show folks crop ears and dock tails, too. It's horrible.

Lilgreenpuffer, don't get me started on the declawing thing! Aaarrrgg!!
When I worked as a companion animal nutrition advocate, I would straight up walk away from anyone that would start talking about how they declawed their cat and all their frogfish reasons why. I wasn't allowed to argue on the subject because I specialized in nutrition, but I could walk away.
It's disgusting that such a procedure is legal, and equally as disgusting is people's nonchalant attitude toward it like it's just some routine, simple procedure.

And vets that offer declawing at a reduced rate as a package deal with spay/neuter... UGH. And vets that promote Science Diet!!! My cat gets 100% grain-free, low-carb, high-protein kibble. When I can afford it one day, she'll eat raw.

bertie, do you know why your cat does IE (inappropriate elimination)? Have you taken him/her to the vet?
