Just ordered the Skimmer and saltwater test kit.

Tomorrow i am going to the lfs to get the substrate and pumps!

I will post pictures tomorrow after leveling with the tank tomorrow

What pumps did you decide on?

I was going to ask the lfs tomorrow cause they are very knowledgable with SW and have a good selection at good prices (only $1 more than DFS sale right now on the koralias)

I was thinking something along the lines of getting 1 koralia 750 and then getting another pump if needed? Does this sound like too little? too much? I am relying on feedback from this forum and the lfs (mostly this forum!)

I mentioned to you in this thread that you would be better off with 2-4 smaller Korilias in each corner (high & low).

The koralia 750 is a beast, it made a monsoon in my 75 galllon no matter how I angled it. I sold it and just bought 2 smaller pumps.
So, a +1 for sure on 2 smaller ones.

Okay. So maybe a few of the smaller nano pumps?

I think i will get 2 of the nano 240s to start and see if there is any deadspots, and add more accordingly

I agree with many of the things suggested above, but not all.

Aragonite sand definitely - I would not use anything else in BW or SW.

I disagree w/PP on the LR directly on the glass - but I am one of the folks who have lost a tank to rock cracking the bottom glass. I do not do any tank FW/BW/or SW without eggcrate helping support/distribute the pressure of any significant rockwork. I have never had any issues since I adopted that practice, including several tanks with more rock than water.

I do strongly agree w/PP on using multiple smaller pumps - they will give you better and more easily controlled circulation, which to me is significant with LR.

I also agree that tank tank is too small for for a GSP and a Tomato or any other clownfish. It is good for a singleton GSP.

Lighting for the tank w/FOWLR is not critical initially. High intensity is likely to cause more issues with unwanted algae growth than it will benefit.

In a SW set up, I wouldn't trust myself to do it properly (put rock on glass) without eggcrate.

Yup, and if operated as a tank it would last how long?

My ordinary tanks are set for 10-year projected lifespans, and some get torn now sooner (boredom), while others run indefinitely. My rock-heavy mbuna tank went ~17 years before I tired of it, I have others now at about the same age. The mbuna tank had so much rock that it did not have nearly enough water to support the fish, so needed a huge sump. Its veggie filters kept the LFS in Val for years after I added another sump (one same light cycle, one reverse lighted. It is not bad to have a tank or two that pay their own way with some left over to help support the others. But it is better to have tanks which you can feel reasonably confident will not break and cause a flood from dead load stresses on the glass and seams. Styrofoam or blue bead-board pads under the tanks and eggcrate inside rocky tanks are cheap insurance.

Even mid-sized tanks are huge masses, large tanks are ridiculously heavy. Insurance is far cheaper than repairs, and require little time or effort at set-up.

All JMHO, YMMV.

I will definitely be using some egg crate or something as a precaution because i would hate to see the tanks contents laying on the ground
